King City officials said 11 shootings, two of those deadly and six of those recorded in an 8-day period, have already been logged in 2017.

Officials said the city logged 17 shootings and two homicides in total for the 2016 year.

The City Council appointed a 23-member task force, who developed a comprehensive plan to end youth violence, according to officials.

City leaders are asking community members to get involved by learning and discussing ways in working together to make the neighborhoods of King City safer.

Community members are encouraged to attend one of the following meetings based upon the Council district where they live:

District 5 Recreation Center, 401 Division Street on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11 a.m.

District 2 Arts Magnet School Auditorium, 415 Pearl Street on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1 p.m.

District 4 King City High School Cafeteria, 720 Broadway Street on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 3 p.m.

District 1 Chalone Peaks Middle School Multi-Purpose Room, 667 Meyer Street on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3:30 p.m.

The intent of the program, according to city officials, is to provide the community with important information on the seriousness of the youth violence problem, what the city is doing to address it and how the public can get involved.

Officials said Spanish translation will be available at the meetings.
