“Empty the Shelter” adoption event at the SPCA for Monterey County
The SPCA for Monterey County is participating in a pet adoption event Saturday where all adoption fees will be waved.
Dozens of shelters in Northern California will participate in the “Empty the Shelter” event, which is made possible by the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
“We thank the BISSELL Pet Foundation for donating the adoption fees so every dog and cat in our shelter can find a loving, forever home,” said Scott Delucchi, SPCA executive director.
Officials say pets adopted at free adoption events have lower return rates than regular adoptions.
All SPCA adoption protocols will stay the same with the exception of putting pets on hold the day of Saturday or the day before, officials said.
Adopters will enjoy photo opportunities and receive a leash for dogs and a collar for cats from the BISSELL Pet Foundation. The SPCA is the only shelter in Monterey County that is participating in this event, officials said.
SPCA officials said adoptions include the pet’s spay or neuter surgery, permanent microchip identification, vaccinations, SPCA ID tag, a health evaluation and more. Regular adoption fees range from $35 to $290.
