Salinas DUI enforcement for Saint Patrick’s Day
Salinas police said they will have more officers on patrol and DUI check points on Friday for Saint Patrick’s Day.
Officers said that in addition to more police on patrol, the California Highway Patrol will also be on alert and ready to stop and arrest any impaired drivers throughout the weekend.
“If you plan on drinking, also plan for a sober ride home. If you plan on throwing a party, plan for ways to get sober rides for your guests. Don’t wait until the party has started to make transportation plans, it will be too late. Get a sober driver in advance, and no matter what, never get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking,” said Sargent Garry Ross, of the Salinas Police Department.
Officials said that Saint Patrick’s Day has become one of the most dangerous holidays. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 252 people lost their lives in drunk driving-related crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period from 2011-2015.
