Limited opening of Hwy 1 south of Big Sur planned

People stranded in Big Sur between Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge and Ragged Point have a small window of time to replenish their supplies.

According to Caltrans, there is a limited opening at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10.

Delivery vehicles that weigh 35,000 lbs or less and are shorter than 30-feet in length will be allowed to pass through the road closure at Ragged Point to get to Big Sur. Caltrans said drivers will meet at Ragged Point and will be escorted by a Caltrans vehicle north.

The next deliveries scheduled are March 13, March 15 and March 17, all at 10 a.m.

Caltrans said starting Friday until further notice, only locals with identification will have access from Ragged Point to the Big Sur Post Office between delivery dates and on weekends.
