Wanted suspect arrested in Watsonville after HWY 1 pursuit

UPDATE 3/7/17 3:50 p.m.: Watsonville police said the wanted suspect has been detained and a shelter in place for the area has been lifted.

PREVIOUS STORY: Residents are being asked to stay away from police activity in Watsonville Tuesday afternoon near Ohlone Pkwy. to Paseo Dr. and Loma Vista to Bree Ln.

Officers said the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a car, which turned into a pursuit on Highway 1 into Monterey County and back to Watsonville.

Landmark Elementary School has been placed on lockdown, as law enforcement search for the suspect.

Officers said the suspect crashed near Lighthouse Dr.
