Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge officials list four areas of concern
Caltrans officials have identified four areas of concern north of Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge.
They are:
The highway shoulder just north of the Andrew Molera Campground road gate. Caltrans officials said it is not a high priority, but the bank is sliding just off the highway shoulder. They said the roadbed seems fine.
The north end of Lighthouse Flat. The roadbed is undermined under the southbound lane because of a plugged culvert. Caltrans said this is a high priority for the highway to be opened to the public.
A Large slide between Little Sur and Hurricane Point is a high priority for the highway to be opened to public, according to officials.
The guardrail and the edge of the highway shoulder is starting to slide. Officials said it is something to keep an eye on.
Caltrans officials said they are still drilling to find the best fitting bridge replacement. A crane will be coming next week to help with demolition, and bridge building is still some time away.
Officials said that once contractors are on site, they will focus on the north end of Lighthouse Flat and the large slide between Little Sur and Hurricane Point.
