3 killed in crash on Highway 1 near Wilder Ranch
UPDATE: 3/1/2017 9:30 a.m.: Three people died Tuesday evening in a two car crash on Highway 1 that forced the closure of the highway in both directions for several hours, according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP said the 21-year-old driver of the cars lost control because of speeding and crossed over the yellow lines into the northbound lane.
Officials said the 20-year-old passenger died at the scene. The drive was a taken to a hospital, where he died.
The 56-year-old driver of the car that was hit was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Officials said alcohol or drugs do not seem to be factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
PREVIOUS STORY: One person is dead after two cars crashed on Highway 1 near Wilder Ranch just north of Santa Cruz Tuesday evening, according to California Highway Patrol.
Officers said another person was seriously hurt. A portion of the highway will be closed for the next 30 minutes while crews work to clear the scene.
