SPCA seeks information on neglected horse, reward offered

The SPCA for Monterey County is looking for information on a neglected horse found earlier this month in Salinas.

Investigators said the horse, a 5-year-old paint stallion, was found loose on Natividad Rd. with a fractured left hind leg. The horse had been suffering from the untreated injury for a long time, possibly years.

The SPCA said the horse had to be humanely euthanized, based on recommendations from equine veterinarians.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for neglecting the horse.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SPCA to share information confidentially at 831-373-2631.
