Highway 101 re-opens near Aromas after downed trees
UPDATE 2/17/17 2:23 p.m.: Highway 101 near Aromas is back open after trees came down on the highway Friday morning during high winds, according to CHP.
Officers said northbound traffic opened at about 1:00 p.m. and southbound opened at about 1:30 p.m.
Traffic is still very heavy in the area.
UPDATE 2/17/2017 12:00 p.m.: According to CHP Northbound lanes on Highway 101 are still closed near the Red Barn in Aromas.
CHP said it will take several hours to clear the road and there is no estimated time of when it will re-open.
Some drivers said they have been stuck on Highway 101 for up to 5 hours.
CHP does not have a recommended detour route, because of safety concerns on other nearby roads.
PREVIOUS STORY: California Highway Patrol said multiple tress are blocking lanes on 101 North near the Red Barn in the Prunedale area.
No word when they will clear the lanes.
CHP said traffic is backed up.
