Man behind bars after running way from Santa Cruz deputies while handcuffed

A man is now behind bars after running way from Santa Cruz deputies while handcuffed.

Santa Cruz deputies said they contacted Rollin Thunder Easley after breaking into the St. Michael’s Church on Pine Street in Boulder Creek on Monday.

According to deputies Easley had warrants for his arrest and initially lied about his identity.

Deputies said they were walking Easley who was at this point handcuffed to the patrol car when he took off running towards the San Lorenzo River.

Easley entered the river still handcuffed, but became cornered in a small cove where he could not walk out, according to deputies.

Deputies said they had to call nearby fire departments to help them rescue Easley from the river.

Easley was arrested.
