Flooding forces evacuations in Felton Grove
At about noon on Tuesday the San Lorenzo River reached major flood state. The river got to about 24 feet, for perspective, it starts flooding at 16 feet. Many residents that were forced to leave there homes in the Felton Grove neighborhoods said it’s the worst they’ve seen it.
Some were using kayaks along Covered Bridge Road to get out safely.
“Me and my brother-in-law got kayaks, we checked all the houses, the houses are clear, we got everyone across to this side,” said Carlos Oliveira.
The Sheriff’s office sent out its search and rescue team just around the corner on River Road.
“Number one priority is saving lives,” said Sgt. Nick Baldrige, “people that are trapped in their buildings, their homes, getting them out to safety.”
Residents in the area said they were prepared but couldn’t believe how quickly things flooded.
“That quick bro. And we haven’t even felt the water from the mountains yet,” said Oliveira, “it’s going to get worse.”
