Highway 101 road construction project set to start Monday
The U.S. Highway 101 road construction project is set to start Monday.
Caltrans said a project to improve 8 miles in both directions of Highway 101 from north of Monterey Road to the San Marcos Creek Bridges, in San Luis Obispo County, to south of the East Garrison Overcrossing, near Camp Roberts in Monterey County will begin on Monday, Feb. 6.
Officials said constructions signs will be installed within the project area.
According to Caltrans, the first phase of will include a longterm closure of the No. 2 (right) lane of U.S. Highway 101 at the South Mission Street Overcrossing.
The U.S. Highway 101 northbound and southbound onramps at 10 th Street will be closed for a four-week period, officials said.
Other closures include the U.S. Highway 101 southbound onramp in south San Miguel, Cemetery Road, the 10 th Street Undercrossing and the northbound U.S. Highway 101 offramp at 10 th Street Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and during the overnight hours from 8 to 6.
According to officials, the project will include the widening of the U.S. Highway 101 bridges within the project area, the construction of new bridges at San Marcos Creek and South Mission Street, a realignment of U.S. Highway 101 to allow for a new southbound onramp at South Mission Street, paving of U.S. Highway 101 and nearby ramps and lowering U.S. Highway 101 at Camp Roberts for a minimum bridge clearance height.
Other upgrades installed will be drainage systems, guardrail and improved lighting at the onramps and offramps within the corridor.
