Congressman Jimmy Panetta to attend Trump inauguration

Central Coast Congressman Jimmy Panetta is planning to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45 th President of the United States.

Panetta released the following statement on the inauguration:

“Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States of America and it’s long past time for him to assume those responsibilities with the seriousness, wisdom and humility of his predecessors.”

“Donald Trump’s insults are reprehensible, especially the latest outburst targeted at my colleague and civil rights icon Representative John Lewis.”

“I vehemently disagree with Donald Trump on many levels and I’m outraged by many of his statements, but I have the utmost respect for the office he will hold. At this point, I plan to be present for the peaceful transition of power which is the foundation of American democracy. Furthermore, I am very pleased to meet with Central Coast residents visiting Washington, D.C. for the inauguration and other events, including 100 students from the Dream Academy in Salinas. My office will be open on Friday and I take seriously my pledge to be there for my constituents who are attending either event. I am honored to represent everyone from California’s 20 th Congressional District, which includes voters across the political spectrum. As your Congressman, I will fight for the best interests of all my constituents and my country. That fight begins in Washington on January 20 and that’s where I’ll be.”
