Monterey County employee dies in crash on Laureles Grade Road in Carmel Valley

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. (KION) The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash near Southview Lane and Laureles Grade in Carmel Valley Monday afternoon. According to Monterey County, the person that died was a county employee -- 45-year-old Latu Moli.

Moli was a Road Worker for Monterey County Public Works Dept. for almost 14 years, according to the GoFundMe campaign started by a Salinas organizer.

He was driving to his worksite in a truck when it went over the side of the road, through the guardrail and down a steep hill.

Monterey County Regional Fire and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office also responded, however, California Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation. Cal OSHA has been informed of the incident, as well.

Moli was married with three daughters. A coworker said they started a GoFundMe to help the family cover the cost of the funeral and other related expenses. The campaign reached its goal of $10,000 within a couple of hours.
