Nine arrested in Salinas DUI crackdown
Ten days, nine DUI drivers arrested in Salinas as part of a winter driving under the influence enforcement campaign.
The Salinas Police Department began special saturation patrols at night on December 16. Five of the nine DUI drivers arrested through December 26 were also unlicensed, according to police.
Unlicensed DUI drivers caused three traffic collisions during that ten day period. No one was injured.
The Salinas Police Dept. also reports four hit and run collisions, arresting the driver in the four cases.
The holiday saturation patrols aren’t over yet. They’ll continue through January 1st, funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety. A DUI checkpoint is scheduled in Salinas for Thursday, December 29.
In a press release issued today, SPD says, “the real strength of the checkpoint comes from deterring DUI drivers and educating the public to the dangers of drunk and drugged driving.”
