Woman killed in Highway 68 crash identified

UPDATE 12/19/16 11:02 a.m.: CHP has identified the woman killed in a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 68 near Stephanie Dr.

Officer said Jo Ann Eslinger, 89, was killed after trying to make a u-turn and drove directly into the path of another driver.

PREVIOUS STORY: An 89-year-old woman was killed during a crash Friday afternoon just outside Salinas on Highway 68, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officers said the woman was driving westbound on Highway 68, pulled over to the shoulder and attempted to make a u-turn. That’s when a 16-year-old male driver crashed into her car, and the woman died at the scene.

Westbound lanes were closed for about an hour. No drugs or alcohol are considered a factor in the crash and the teen was not hurt.
