Felon arrested on gun and drug charges

A convicted felon is back behind bars after being found with a stolen gun, narcotics and a large amount of cash.

According to Salinas police, Mathew Loggins Jr., 35, was stopped Thursday for a vehicle code violation as he drove in the city’s Chinatown area.

Members of the city’s Violence Suppression Unit and officers from State Parole and the California Highway Patrol searched Loggins Jr. and his vehicle, and recovered a stolen loaded 9mm handgun, about two ounces of heroin and several thousand dollars in cash.

Loggins Jr. was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
