Winter storm causes flooding on Central Coast

From Ben Lomond to Big Sur, rain and wind pounded down on the Central Coast.

“Just try to stay warm, watch for your neighbor,” said Tom Hostetler.

Tom Hostetler has lived near the San Lorenzo River for 30 years and has weathered many storms.

“The water did come up in 82 and washed this house away,” said Hostetler. “It’s all sand bags. Under garage doors and along edges of houses. It still gets in anyways.”

Residents living in the Santa Cruz Mountains faced their own challenges as road’s were filled with debris.

“We hit three or four trees and landslides on the way down the last 15 minutes on this road, so after that last tree I’m turning around and heading home where it’s safe,” said Soquel Resident Beau Darcey.

And in Big Sur, rock and mudslides forced a hard closure on parts of Highway 1 Thursday night.
