Presidio cop charged with child sexual assault

A Presidio of Monterey police officer was arraigned Friday morning in Santa Cruz County Superior Court on seven counts of child sexual assault in a case dating back nearly 20 years.

Barney Ramnauth is accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14 in 1998. He was arrested Tuesday.

Ramnauth’s LinkedIn page currently shows he works as a police officer at the Presidio. Ramnauth was named the Presidio’s 2014 Officer of the Year, according to the Salinas Californian.

According to a Presidio spokesperson, Ramnauth was hired as an officer in November 2010 . He was placed on paid administrative leave following his arrest.
