Voters choose to pay more for roads – Now what?

The Transportation Agency of Monterey County is now moving forward to implement the Transportation Safety & Investment Plan, also known as Measure X.

“One of the first things we have to do is set up an account with the board of equalization. Because they are the government entity that will collect the tax,” said TAMC Outreach Coordinator Theresa Wright.

That tax, which is 3/8 of a percent sales tax will go into effect April 1.

“There are a number of accounts that have to be set up. There has to be an account with the Controller’s office of Monterey County, because they will be responsible for distributing the money to the cities and the County,” said Wright.

Projects around each City are identified on the TAMC website.

“Our board has to develop a priority plan. That has a year. They have a year to get that done. So like i said when that goes into effect what people will probably see first are the local projects, but that’s further down the line,” said Wright.
