Head-on crash closes Blanco Road

UPDATE 12/6/16 11:49 AM: The California Highway Patrol reports that Blanco Road is closed in both directions. Hard closures are in effect at Davis Road and Cooper Road.

ORIGINAL STORY: Both lanes of Blanco Road west of Salinas are closed due to a major injury accident involving a car and an 18-wheeler, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.

Witnesses told the CHP that an eastbound Toyota Corolla swerved into the westbound lane and was hit by an 18-wheel truck.

A tow truck and ambulance are en route.

Westbound traffic is being diverted at Hitchcock Road and eastbound traffic is detoured at Cooper Road.

The CHP says Blanco Road could remain closed for another hour as they investigate.
