Man hit by cars, dies while fleeing CHP
UPDATE 11/23/16 4:36 PM: Wednesday morning’s closure of northbound Highway 101 in Monterey started with a traffic stop Tuesday night.
The California Highway Patrol says officers were assisting Sheriff’s deputies with a driver suspected of driving under the influence. During the D.U.I. stop, the driver tried to run away. He ran onto Highway 1 and was hit by two cars and died at the scene.
The victim is a 26-year-old man from Del Rey Oaks. His identity was not immediately released.
The investigation forced the closure of Highway 1’s northbound lanes until 8:47 a.m..
UPDATE 11/23/16 9:50 AM: All lanes of Highway 1 are now open following the investigation of a fatal accident overnight. The California Highway Patrol reopened the highway at 8:47 a.m..

According to California Highway Patrol officials, there is a fatality linked to the investigation underway in the area.
The incident happened just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
