Reported Monterey kidnapping a hoax
UPDATE 11/17/16 9:50AM: An attempted kidnapping in Monterey that was reported Monday turned out to be false, according to the Monterey Police Department.
On Nov. 14, two siblings, ages six and eight, said a man attempted to lure them into his car which was parked outside the city library.
Investigators did a follow up on the case and determined the incident didn’t occur. Police said the children made up the story.
The police department would like to remind parents to educate their children on the severity of reporting a false crime.

The Monterey Police Department is looking for a man who tried to kidnap two children on Pacific Street.
According to police, it happened around 1:32 p.m. Monday at the Monterey Library. Two siblings, ages six and eight, said a man attempted to lure them into his car which was parked outside the library.
The two children then took off to Monterey High School where they told a staff member what happened.
Police said the suspect was described as a Hispanic man with shoulder length white hair and a long white beard. He has a tattoo of a rose on his neck and was wearing several bracelets as well as rings on both hands.
The suspect was last seen driving toward Larkin Street in a newer model white coupe with black graphics on the door panels. There was also damage to the interior seating surfaces.
