Caballero wins assembly seat

Former Salinas mayor Anna Caballero will return to Sacramento. On Tuesday, Caballero defeated Karina Alejo in the race for the 30 th Assembly District.

Caballero received 43,862 votes. Alejo received 25,403.

Both candidates are Democrats. They were vying to fill the seat being vacated by Alejo’s husband, Luis Alejo, who served back-to-back terms in the Assembly.

Caballero previously served as mayor of Salinas and served two terms in the Assembly, representing the 28th District.
