Female surfers selected for Titans of Mavericks

Two Santa Cruz women will compete in the first Titans of Mavericks female surf contest in Half Moon Bay this year.

All six contestants will include: Jamilah Star of Santa Cruz, Sarah Gerhardt of Santa Cruz, Andrea Moller of San Paulo, Brazil, Emily Erickson of Haleiwa, HI, Keala Kennelly of Kauai, HI and Paige Alms of Haiku, HI.

Two alternatives were chosen: Bianca Valenti of San Francisco and Wrenna Delgado of Haleiwa, HI.

Initially the competition planned to exclude women this year until surfers went before the California Coastal Commission requesting they be given a chance to compete last year.

The CCC told KION they directed Cartel Management, the company overseeing the competition, to create a plan that included women in their event.
