Hit-and-run driver pleads guilty

The driver who fled the scene after hitting and killing a 10-year-old boy will go to prison for just over six years.

Thursday, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced that Juna Pedro Rodriguez, 25, pled guilty to felony hit and run causing death, misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license.

Rodriguez will be sentenced December 6, 2016 to six years and two months in prison.

According to the D.A.’s office, on December 23, 2015 Rodriguez hit the boy on North Sanborn Road near Kilbreth in Salinas. Rodriguez fled and later asked his family to report the car stolen. The boy was airlifted to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he died three days later.

Rodriguez will also be sentenced on probation violations on December 6.
