UPDATE: Man dies after shooting at apartment complex in Salinas

The victim has been identified as Giovanni Vargas. Vargas was 24-years-old and a resident of Salinas. He was shot and killed while working on his car.

Family members tell KION the victim was a 23-year-old farmer from Mexico. They also say he had no gang ties.

Police say the shooting happened in the parking lot of the apartment complex and that all officer on duty are on scene.

Salinas Police confirm the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

This is the 33rd homicide of the year.
