Halloween arrests down in Santa Cruz
With the exception of a heroin-smoking man with a crossbow pistol, Halloween was relatively quiet in downtown Santa Cruz.
The Santa Cruz Police Department announced Tuesday that an estimated 10,000 people celebrated downtown, a drop of about 50 percent from 2015.
Arrests were also down from the previous year. Police report making 20 arrests overall – six for public intoxication. In 2015, there were 20 arrests for public intoxication.
Police also issued 24 triple fine citations, mostly for open containers of alcohol. Last year, police made 40 triple fine citations.
Among this year’s notable cases, Bradley Kellman, 60, from Santa Cruz, was arrested for smoking heroin in a parking lot. Police say he was in possession of drug pipes and 11 zip-lock baggies of methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine. He was arrested for possession of drugs for sale.
Police say Kellman also had a crossbow pistol and 14 crossbow arrows.
