Officials warn of delays at polls

Voters will have their hands full in one week when they head to the polls. They will have to decide on initiatives and measure that cover three cards. For Claudio Valenzuela he’s never seen anything like it.

“In the 16 years I have been in elections in Monterey County I’ve never seen such a large ballot,” said Registrar of Voters Claudio Valenzuela.

So when you hit the polls and feel a little intimidated, you’re not alone.

“There’s 17 statewide measures. In addition to them, three county wide measures, and a whole bunch of little measures here and there for different jurisdictions,” said Claudio Valenzuela.

Which is why it’s important for voters to be informed in order to prevent slowing lines and big delays.

“That’s why they have the state guide and local guide. They can research all they want in here. They can mark their selection in the sample ballot, and take that to the polls,” said Valenzuela.

Polls close at 8:00 p.m. on election night, however if you’re standing in line you will still get a chance to vote. Just people who show up after that deadline will lose their right to cast their ballot.
