2 arrested for allegedly trying to kill cop

GALT, California (KCRA) — Two people were arrested early Saturday morning for attempted homicide on a Galt police officer, officials said.
Around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, a Galt police officer was patrolling the northeast area of Crystal Way. The officer then observed a vehicle which stopped on eastbound Boessow Road, east of Crystal Way, officials said.
The officer then identified the vehicle from a previous incident involving a man who was arrested for driving under the influence and had since been released from Galt police custody, officials said.
Soon after identifying the vehicle, the officer heard multiple gunshots fired in his direction and heard the bullets hit the ground near his immediate area, officials said.
The officer then called for backup and advised dispatch that shots had been fired. The suspects vehicle fled eastbound on Boessow Road shortly after firing the shots, officials said.
After a short pursuit, Galt Police officers eventually stopped near Cherokee Lane and Boessow Road where an adult female and an adult male were taken into custody peacefully, officials said.
Other officers on scene located evidence related to the shooting inside the suspects vehicle. Officers additionally located more evidence of the shooting on Boessow Road, where the suspects vehicle initially stopped at the time of the shooting.
Officials confirmed no officers were hurt during the shooting.
24 year-old Alejandro Reyes-Rios of Stockton and 24 year-old Virginia Maria Montanez of Galt, were booked into the Sacramento County Jail on Saturday and face the following charges:
Attempted homicide Assault with a deadly weapon Conspiracy Montanez has additionally been charged with accessory after the fact.
No additional information was released and the investigation remains active.
