Drought and bark beetles blamed for early fire season
Its clear wildfire season is here. According to the United States Forest Service as many as 66 million trees have died since 2010 throughout California, up from 29 million reported last year. The die off is being blamed on the drought and bark beetles.
“It’s shocking to see just how many trees are dying and just that sheer number of them is enormous, but unfortunately it’s something we’ve been anticipating for some time here now and that’s why we’ve been working very hard over this winter and the spring to remove dead trees to help make sure these communities are better prepared as we get into the peak of fire season,” said California Department of Forestry Information Officer Daniel Berlant.
California Governor Jerry brown has set aside 30 million dollars to prevent further tree die off.
