Warm weather creating business boost on the Central Coast after rainy winter

School is out for the summer, couple that with California heat waves and you get thousands of people from all over finding refuge on beaches in the Central Coast.

”The weather, it’s been really hot,” said Paloma Hernandez of Hollister, California. “The kids wanted to enjoy some time outside and we brought them to the beach.”

Hernandez said they planned to make a day of exploring Monterey.

“Enjoy the area,” said Hernandez. “We love the beach so we took the chance to enjoy everything we like around here.”

They aren’t the only ones.

“We just keep cycling through people more and more and more,” said Daniel Maddox with Adventures by the Sea.

Adventures by the Sea in Pacific Grove told KION that business is exploding this summer with tourists coming from countries with rising economies. It gets so busy that sometimes they run out of rentals for their kayaks and bikes.

“Especially the last four years of the drought, we’ve had tremendous heat and so we’ve been packed all the time,” said Maddox.

The Centrella Inn is also starting to see an uptick in business this summer.

“During the weekends we’re always sold out,” said Sam Reeves with Centrella Inn.

They said in the next few weeks, they’ll be full during the week as well.

“We get a lot of people coming from the Bay Area, we even get people coming from Morgan Hill and Santa Cruz of all places,” said Reeves.

Restaurants also told KION they’re starting to see business go up as well.
