Draymond Green takes the court at CSU Monterey Bay
Hundreds of young basketball players are on cloud nine after getting to meet and play with Warriors star Draymond Green. It was all a part of Warriors Basketball Camp at CSUMB where roughly 160 campers got to learn the game from one of the NBA’s biggest stars.
For young Cydney Shimabukuro, there is no better coach than Green.
“It’s really fun! Exciting to see him,” said Cydney.
Cydney said her face lite up when she met the warriors star.
“It’s funny, you know, seeing some of the kids’ reactions. It’s hilarious you know, but it’s definitely a cool thing,” said Green.
During the four days at camp, the kids get to learn the basics of basketball, dribbling, shooting, passing, and of course, working hard.
“Whatever you want to do it’s going to take hard work, just like it took me to get to the NBA,” said Green.
The 26 year old all-star might be used to making plays on the court, but during the camp Draymond is a coach, something that inspires the campers.
“Everything we see that he brings to the court each and every night for the warriors he brings that same energy to these campers at the camp,” said Jeff Addiego, Senior Camp Director, “and they are able to feed off of that so it’s really special.”
Beyond just learning the fundamentals, according to Draymond, the camp is all about having fun.
“I think you should always have fun playing the game of basketball and I think the more fun you have the more you want to work,” said Green, “the more work you put in the better you get.”
More fun will certainly be in store for young Cydney, Draymond told campers that more Warriors players will be coming to camp.
“He said some other players are coming, so I really want to know who it is,” said Cydney.
On top of all the valuable basketball skills learned, all the campers got Draymond’s autograph.
The basketball camp continues until Monday.
