Suspects escape after homeowner foils burglary

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two people suspected of trying to burglarize a home Monday morning in the 700 block of San Andreas Road.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that a homeowner interrupted the burglary, and two suspects brandished both a knife and a handgun at the victim before escaping in a blue or green Chevrolet Camaro.

Sgt. Ian Patrick told KION that the homeowner chased the suspects into a strawberry field across from the home.

“Eventually, when they caught up with the suspect in the berry farm here, another suspect showed up in a vehicle and brandished a hand gun and the initial suspect got into the vehicle. They both drove away. No shots were fired that we know of yet, and no one was injured,” said Patrick.

Both suspects escaped in a blue or green late-90’s model Chevrolet Camaro with red, white, and blue striping down the hood and roof. Deputies say if you see any similar vehicle, please report it to the Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible.
