Race for 20th Congressional District down to Panetta and Lucius
The race for the California 20th Congressional District seat is officially down to two candidates.
On the Democratic side, Monterey County Deputy District Attorney Jimmy Panetta got just over 70 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s primary election.
For the Republicans, Pacific Grove council member Casey Lucius got almost 22 percent of the votes.
Lucius told News Channel 5 she didn’t expect a big turnout at the polls with Donald Trump as the presumed nominee.
“We know that there’s going to be high voter turnout among Democrats because there are a lot of people going out to vote for Bernie and Hillary. So, in some ways I think the results might be a little bit skewed in this primary,” said Lucius.
Panetta spent Tuesday going to candidate watch parties. He spoke to News Channel 5 at an event for Clinton in Santa Cruz.
“Hopefully with the Democratic Party, they understand that it’s time to come together and get behind Hillary and make sure that we focus on November,” said Panetta.
