One woman dead after car crash in Santa Cruz

One woman is dead after a Memorial Day car crash in the Santa Cruz area. It happened around 4:35 p.m.

According to California Highway Patrol, a 23-year-old woman was driving her 2011 Honda Civic northbound on Highway 1 near Highway 17 transition road.

She veered off the road before crashing into a tree and rolling into a ditch.

The driver was transported to Dominican Hospital where she later passed away.

Drug and/or alcohol use is unknown.
