What you need to know about Hillary Clinton’s visit
In less than 24 hours, the auxiliary gym at Hartnell College will be packed with more than 500 people listening to Hillary Clinton.
Doors to the event open at 12 p.m. with the event officially kicking off at 2 p.m. Security will be tight. The secret service is the lead agency and few details have been released. We know the Salinas Police and CHP are helping. The Monterey County Sheriff’s office is on standby.
“Everybody that’s involved in this detail will be working with them closely to make sure that we fulfill our role in addition to helping them as best we can since they are coming in to our jurisdiction,” Salinas Police Deputy Chief Dan Perez said.
Clinton is flying in at 1 p.m. and authorities said a motorcade will escort her to Hartnell. Temporary road closures will be in place.
Hartnell recommends parking in the parking garage off of Central Avenue. Campus police will not be issuing tickets to drivers.
There may not be many students on campus — it’s finals week.
This is Clinton’s second time visiting the campus in nearly ten years. The school is honored to be chosen again and show students an important political process first-hand.
“How we growing leaders? It’s through opportunity, engagement and achievement, so those first two pieces are perfectly aligned,” Hartnell President Willard Lewallen said. “Here’s an opportunity and they have the opportunity to engage in the process.”
Clinton’s visit will be short. She’s expected to fly out of the area at 3:30 p.m.
Her next scheduled stop is in San Jose.
