UPDATE: Suspect arrested after escaping nearly 40-hour standoff in Salinas
A man at the center of a nearly 40-hour standoff in a Salinas neighborhood last week is now behind bars, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. Marshals arrested Agustn Len Palomares, 30, Monday night in Salinas. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail, but will be extradited to Santa Cruz County.Palomares was wanted out of Santa Cruz County on charges related to domestic violence and terrorist threats.
During the standoff in Salinas, Palomares managed to escape a home on the 1300 block of Cherokee Drive which was surrounded by U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement.
According to Salinas Police, Palomares was arrested by U.S. Marshals with help from the Salinas Police Department and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office at America’s Best Value Inn, based on tips from the community.
Investigators said a specialized team worked around the clock to search for Palomares.
“The US Marshals and their partners will not rest until they have their fugitive. This is a great example of perseverance and dedication from law enforcement and community alike.
