Wildland fire shuts down part of Main St. in Watsonville Tuesday for tree cleanup

Watsonville Police say both southbound lanes of Main St. between Auto Center Dr. and Rodriguez St. will be closed for most of Tuesday due to Caltrans work.

Watsonville Police said just after midnight Tuesday, there was a wildland fire in the area that set several trees on fire. Watsonville Police, Fire, CHP and Caltrans responded.

Caltrans deemed the trees unstable, so they’re cutting them down Tuesday. The work is estimated to last until sunset. Both northbound lanes will be turned into a two-way road with one-way traffic control until the work is complete.
