Salinas gas prices falling

With summer weather moving in and a beautiful coastline all around us, there’s no reason not to go exploring. Traveling has become a lot easier on the wallet, and with gas prices as low as they are right now, who’s up for a road trip?

The Salinas area seems to have some of the best gas prices around. It’s regular unleaded gas prices have drop below the two dollar mark for the first time in nearly twenty years. The lowest reported price in the area is $1.91 with many stations at $1.95 like this Arco on North Main, while most seem to be hovering at the $1.99 mark. These Salinas stations are beating the state average that’s currently at $2.30. Needless to say, commuters are pumped…no pun intended.

“People come in normally, hand me 30, 40 dollars cause that’s what they have been doing, and they’re coming back getting more than 20 dollars in change and they’re like oh I can’t believe this,” said Arco Manager, Cina Flores.

“I’m actually on the way back from Santa Barbara and we always stop here for gas because it is usually cheaper here than in the Bay area but this but this is just extremely low,” said Andreas.

Cina Flores also says that she doesn’t expect that prices will get much lower, but there’s a good chance they’ll stick around for a while.

And while we are all sitting here getting excited, the rest of the country is laughing at us. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline is one dollar and 69 cents.
