Santa Cruz surfer Nic Lamb wins Titans of Mavericks
Santa Cruz surfer Nic Lamb, 26, has been crowned the winner of Titans of Mavericks. Commentators said he fought hard, taking a number of beatings, but persisted. In a very humble interview after the win, he thanked a long list of people.
Coming in second place, with one of the most surprising performances of the day, was Travis Payne, an alternate, from Pacifica.
Out of the six surfers in the final round, four are from California, two from the Central Coast: Nic Lamb (Santa Cruz) and Tyler Fox (Aptos). The other Californians include Travis Payne (Pacifica) and Greg Long (San Clemente). The other two finalists included Jamie Mitchell (Currumbin, Gold Coast, Australia), and Carlos Burle (Recife, Brasil).
There were a number of big wipeouts during the day. Surfer Ken Collins from Santa Cruz ruptured his eardrum during a spill. That injury took him out of the contest. But commentators agree Nic Lamb took the most beatings.
