Large surf at 2010 Mavericks changed the rules
Some of the world’s best surfers will battle it out Friday at the legendary Mavericks surf break.
The one-day, invitation-only surfing competition is a big deal, and several of the 24 competitors are from the Central Coast. As they prepare for the big waves, fans are also getting excited. Titans of Mavericks was called off last year because the surf conditions just weren’t right.
Back in 2010, the surf was so strong that a big wave took out spectators before high tide even hit. Thirteen people were hurt, and lots of equipment was ruined.
Since then, spectators haven’t been allowed to watch from the shoreline. Organizers are also NOT hosting a watch party with a big-screen TV in the Princeton-By-The-Sea village as they’ve done in years past.
However, you can watch a live broadcast of the contest on the Titans of Mavericks website. You can also catch it at restaurants and bars that are showing it.
