Avocado and wings expected to dominate Super Bowl party trays
Football fans may not have agreed on who would take home the Lombardi Trophy for Super Bowl 50, but one thing they did have in common: “We’re ready to party,” said Santi.
“Panthers,” said Super Bowl party shopper Kate Wenger.
“I’d take it for Peyton Manning one time,” said Terry Santi.
The National Retail Federation predicted Super Bowl spending to be more than $15 billion dollars with the average person shelling out about 82 bucks.
“Probably like close to $100, I would say,” said shopper Rebecca Interrante.
People shopped for food, decor, team apparel and more.
Star Market in Salinas along with other local grocery stores saw a steady stream of Super Bowl party shoppers.
“I’m buying ice, said Santi. “Gotta keep the beer cold.”
What’s a party without wings?
The National Chicken Council estimated that 1.3 billion wings would be consumed leading up to and after the Super Bowl.
“We have a full bar with wings, beer bar, booze bar,” said Santi.
Avocado also played a starring role with more than 130 million pounds of the green fruit-yes, it’s a fruit-eaten.
“Dip, chips, soda, that kind of thing,” said Wenger.
Add to that nuts, veggie trays, meat to put on the grill and people to enjoy it with.
“It’s about getting together with people that you’re close with, just spending time together,” said Wenger.
