Food demand and SB50

For many around the Central Coast, Super Bowl and food go hand in hand. And with the big game right up the road, local businesses are preparing for a year like no other.

“It’s going to be a very busy time, especially since the Super Bowl is going to be in our back yard. Lot of business and tourist come down this way. It’s party central here,” said Lucky Supermarket Assistant Store Manager Jose Camacho

Lucky Supermarket in Sand City is branding themselves as just that.

“Party trays are a top hit here, also our chips,” said Camacho.

And while Potato chips are one of the biggest sellers, the California Avocado Commission expects people will consume 139 million pounds of avocados this Sunday. So you guessed it the supermarket is doing samples all week long.

Come game day pizza hut is expected to sell more than 23-million feet of pizza. That equivalent to crossing the golden gate bridge more than 12-hundred times. They aren’t the only ones that will be bringing in the dough.

“We start making our dough three days in advance so it takes quite a while to get ready for everything,” said Pizza my Heart Monterey General Manger Spencer Glenn.

Pizza my Heart in Monterey also expects this Super Bowl to be one of the busiest.

“Staffing is the big one. Making sure we have enough people to get out there on the roads. We deliver to a really large area,” said Glenn.

Which is great since 48-million Americans will order takeout or have food delivered to their doorstep on game day.

“We’re going to go through about 400lbs of cheese, and about 180lbs of pepperoni. It’s going to be a really large amount of everything,” said Glenn.

Go big or go home, a motto that’s guaranteed to give them a win come game day.

“We have new commercial airing on super bowl Sunday on KION. That’s also going to generate a lot of business for us. You know were really excited about it,” said Glenn.
