UPDATE: Salinas Police investigate deadly shooting
UPDATE 2/4/16 4:49 AM: Salinas police have identified the victim as 28-year-old Edgar Navarro.
He was standing in front of the Wash N’ Dry Laundromat, located at 341 Williams Road when he was approached by an unknown Hispanic male, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Without saying anything, the suspect raised a gun and began shooting at Navarro.
Navarro was hit several times and seriously injured.
The suspect ran westbound on Grandhaven Street.
It is unknown whether the suspect got into a vehicle or continued running to make his escape.
Navarro was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a documented gang member, but had not had any contact with the Salinas Police Department for almost a year.
Police say he was known to hang out in the area of the laundromat and convenience store next door, on a regular basis. The motive for the shooting is unknown, but it does appear to be gang related. This is the third homicide in Salinas this year
