Beach Flats Community Garden supporters fighting to save the land
Supporters of the Beach Flats Community Garden are upset following a decision by the Santa Cruz City Council to lease the garden to a Seaside company for three years.
That company is expected to reduce the size of the garden by 40 percent.
On Wednesday, supporters of the garden said city workers put up an orange fence through the heart of the garden. Coalition members were on hand, advising the workers to preserve perennial plants and other parts of the garden that people have worked on for more than 20 years.
Crews have left, but garden supporters say they’re not giving up their fight to save the Beach Flats Community Garden.
