Capitola makes top ten list

Ten-thousand people call the two square miles that make up Capitola ‘home.’

“We have wonderful beaches, we have a wonder wharf. It’s actually a tourist town in the summer, but it’s the local’s town in the winter,” said Capitola City Council Member Dennis Norton.

City Council Member Dennis Norton said that’s how it has always been.

“Capitola is the first seaside resort in the State of California. It has a long industry of welcoming tourists and much of the town really grew around the tourist industry,” said Norton.

Capitola is in the running for the Coastal Living Magazines ‘2016 Happiest Seaside Town in America’.

There’s only ten more days left to vote, however you can vote every 15 minutes.

“Capitola is the happiest town, please vote for Capitola,” said Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce CEO, Toni Castro

But one thing that might not make you so happy, the cost to buy a house.

“We have condos in the three-hundred thousands, up into the millions if you’re out on the cliffs,” said David Lyng Realtors Broker Associate Megan Lyng.

And while the prices are above average, Realtor Megan Lyng said you get what you pay for.

“It’s a great area, there’s a great community down in the village. It’s nice because you can walk to places and it’s a great central location in Santa Cruz,” said Lyng.

Small town vibes with big city amenities.

“We can walk anywhere and get anything in Capitola,” said Castro.

“When you walk down the street in this town everyone says ‘hi’ to each-other. There’s something wonderful about that small town flavor that many towns have lost,” said Norton.
