Winter storms cause boom in business
Business is on the rise for repair shops in Salinas.
“We’re busy all the time,” said One Stop Auto Care Owner Berry Sumagang.
And that’s because the more it rains the better business is proving to be.
“I think we had one storm last year. So we got a little bit of business for that. But then it slowed down after that,” said Tire and Wheel World Owner Mike Spencer.
So what are most people needing done?
“Servicing the breaks they have to be one-hundred percent safe,” said One Stop Auto Care Mechanic Juan Carlos
“Just an increase in tire sales. People are realizing they can’t go on the tires much longer. So they’re coming in and buying new sets,” said Spencer.
Both businesses say car maintenance is key, especially if you want to avoid being stranded in a storm because of a weathered vehicle.
“During this weather checking for overheating, if the heaters working, that’s a must because everyone is cold at this time. Have good tires, check your battery so you won’t get stranded on the road, and don’t go over puddles,” said Carlos.
Another tip from experts…don’t avoid the check engine lights.
“Especially if the lights start blinking. Or if it’s more than a couple days and it doesn’t shut off. You might want to see a technician,” said Sumagang.
In addition to batteries and breaks, auto experts also want to remind people to change out their windshield wipers.
“Good wiper blades make all the difference in the world. Especially if it’s raining hard,” said Spencer.
“You have to keep it a hundred percent so it will last you, so it will be efficient,” said Carlos.
