Hit and run victim in critical condition.
It happened just before 7:00 PM on Tuesday, at the intersection of Sanborn and Kilbreth in Salinas.
“The suspect vehicle was driving in the number two lane. There was a car stopped for the pedestrians and it just swerved around that car and struck the ten year old boy who was trailing the group,” said Salinas Police Sergeant Ross.
Witnesses who cooperated with law enforcement said it was a silver Honda Civic. The car recovered from an anonymous tip matches those descriptions.
“We believe at this time that it is going to be the right vehicle,” said Ross.
That vehicle is now being processed by the Salinas Police Department.
“You know they’ll fingerprint the whole car, DNA samples, they’ll make sure the mechanical parts of the car are working properly so it can take a lot of time,” said Sergeant Ross.
Officers said this is a top priority case, as the boy remains in critical condition in a San Jose Hospital.
“You know we had the case of the abused and murdered children so of course that our number one thing that were working on but other than that we’ve got detectives working on that as we speak. We got a crime scene investigator with the car,” said Ross.
