After US Open loss, Murray calls Tsitsipas breaks ‘nonsense’

NEW YORK (AP) — Andy Murray showed that even at age 34 and with an artificial hip he can push the best tennis players in the world. He would rather have won against No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Day 1 at the U.S. Open, of course. Murray lost in five sets across nearly five hours as the year’s last Grand Slam tournament got underway in high heat and humidity in front of full-capacity crowds. All fans were banned from the event a year ago because of the coronavirus pandemic. With Murray and Marin Cilic out, Novak Djokovic is the only man left in the draw with a Grand Slam title. Women’s winners included 17-year-old Coco Gauff and 2017 champion Sloane Stephens.
